Bronze Wear Plate

Mercobronze produces bronze wear plate within the most demanding technical standards, for customers throughout the national territory.

The function of the bronze wear plate is to protect the base equipment and its components from wear generated by vibration, friction and abrasiveness resulting from the operation. For this reason, the name: wear plate. The part is made of bronze due to the characteristics of this metal: resistance to friction, impact and heavy loads, which makes it the most suitable for this type of application.

To exemplify: if it were not for the use of the bronze wear plate, the high force exerted by the weight of the materials conveyed on a belt conveyor would result in severe wear of the components and of the equipment itself. (Important fact: the cost of the wear plate is small compared to the main equipment.)

The bronze wear plate is designed to function as a “sacrifice surface” to be discarded. Its purpose is to reduce the pressure on equipment and components with a high acquisition cost, preserving them from surface and structural damage.

Among the benefits provided by the use of the bronze wear plate, the following stand out:

  • To provide appropriate sacrifice surface of high-strength and long service life to protect equipment
  • To help centralize the material load
  • To reduce friction, impact, noise and degradation of equipment parts to increase its service life
  • To increase productivity and efficiency
  • To improve quality and increase production capacity

Precise bronze wear plate

Mercobronze produces bronze wear plate with precision and greater durability, thanks to the bronze casting method in a continuous system – one of the few national companies to have this technology. Unlike orthodox casting methods, the continuous system results in porosity-free parts, with no variation in quality between one production lot and another, with better surface finish and minimization of excess metal.

Continuous casting consists of carrying out the entire casting process in a single operation, therefore eliminating intermediate stages, such as cooling in molds, for example. The process provides control and constancy of the physical and geometric properties of the raw material, an essential factor in the manufacture of precise bronze wear plates.

The most commonly used alloy in the manufacture of precise bronze wear plates is C93200 (SAE 660), as it has excellent anti-friction, casting, machinability properties, as well as resistance to wear and corrosion..

Bronze wear plate for linear applications

Bronze wear plate is used in various equipment such as hammermills and dumpsters. You can also use the wear plate for linear applications, such as ramps and conveyor belts.

Any company that has equipment with components that slide over each other, that operate exposed to abrasive, corrosive materials or subject to impacts, vibration and friction, uses so-called bronze wear plates for linear applications.

The bronze wear plates are attached to the equipment at specific transfer points, which is: where movements, impacts, vibrations and friction occur, potentially causing wear.

Mining companies use bronze wear plates for linear applications in truck dumpsters of ore transport. In this way, vehicles that receive hard and heavy materials, such as copper, iron ore and coal, have reduced wear and tear and extended service life.

Other machines that require bronze wear plates:

  • Hammermills
  • Shredders
  • Casting equipment
  • Equipment for steel and aluminum plants
  • Heavy earthmoving and casing equipment
  • Wear blades
  • Helicopters
  • Scrapers
  • Mining Tools
  • Choppers
  • Punching machines
