SAE 660
Bronze SAE 660 is one of many alloys in the bronze family. In its composition, in addition to copper and tin, lead and zinc are added. The mixture gives the alloy excellent castability and mechanical strength. For these and other characteristics, it has become appropriate for the manufacturing of parts intended to withstand a high degree of impact, as is the case, for example, of bearings, bushings and press linings.
Bronze SAE 660 general characteristics
The high lead content used in the composition of the alloy (7% on average) reinforces the general characteristics of the bronze SAE 660:
- Increased thermal conductivity, which facilitates heat dissipation
- Good lubricity, which reduces friction.
- Machinability, which facilitates cutting and machining, not causing excessive wear to the tools used in these processes, in addition to enable excellent finishing
In addition to lead, bronze SAE 660 has zinc in the composition ranging from 2% to 4%. The presence of zinc directly influences the general characteristics of the bronze SAE 660, improving its performance in casting processes.
Bronze SAE 660, also known as bronze C93200 (classified by the UNS system), has the following chemical composition:
- Cu = 81,0% – 85,0%
- Sn = 6,3% – 7,5%
- Pb = 6,0% – 8,0%
- Zn = 2,0% – 4,0%
- P = 1,5% max.
- Ni = 1% max.
- Sb = 0,35 max.
- Fe = 0,20% max.
- S = 0,08% max.
- Si = 0,005% max.
- Al = 0,005% max.
