Bronze nut

Mercobronze produces bronze nut using a modern factory specially for its bronze casting. Equipped with an efficient continuous casting and centrifugal casting system – crucial to ensure product uniformity –, the company is able to maintain the linearity of the items it produces, regardless of the manufacturing lot.

The bronze nut, together with a lead screw is widely used to secure machine and equipment components, such as leveling bases, mechanical jacks, transport equipment, rolling and forging systems, as well as some types of elevators. The inner surface of the nut has a threaded shape and the outer part has a wide variety of shape.

The greater the degree of mechanical stress and wear experienced by the nut, the more appropriate the use of bronze as an appropriate raw material for its manufacturing. The bronze nut fully meets these two requirements, which increases its service life and makes its frequent use in heavy equipment.

Mercobronze has its own machining unit, equipped with innovative machining centers and a wide range of CNC lathes. It also has a complete team of engineers, designers and turners specialized in the production of finished parts, including bronze nuts of the most different types and applications, including those with a high degree of precision.

The shape of the bronze nut differs according to the type of thread and the function for which it is intended. Most common shapes:

  • Flanged
  • Cylindrical
  • Hexagonal
  • Square
  • Knurled
  • Serrated
  • Butterfly
  • Self-locking
  • Pression

The bronze hexagonal nut can be of three types:

  • With retainer
  • With deformed thread
  • Blind nut

Bronze nut manufacturing

The bronze used by Mercobronze to manufacture bronze nut is produced in its own factory, using two alternative casting methods, depending on the characteristics of the desired nut: the centrifugal casting method and the continuous casting system.

Centrifugal casting

In this process, the molten alloy fills a mold at high-speed using a centrifugal force of approximately 100G. This force is generated by the fast rotation of the equipment from powerful motors. This causes the liquid bronze to be thrown against the walls of the mold. After the alloy returns to a solid state, the part is removed from the mold and given the necessary finishes.

Centrifugal casting is used by Mercobronze to manufacture large proportions of bronze nut, impossible to produce using the continuous casting system. Centrifugation generates bronze nuts with the following characteristics:

  • Absence of impurities
  • Minimum production of scrap
  • High mechanical strength and corrosion resistance
  • Reduced micro porosity
  • Very low incidence of defects
  • Rationalized production time and cost

Continuous casting

This technique makes it possible to cast bronze parts in a single operation, eliminating stages and simplifying and standardizing the process. In this way, it achieves high productivity, low cost, standardization and constant maintenance of the geometric and physical properties of the bronze nut, in all production lots.

In continuous casting, the liquid metal is transferred to a so-called continuous forming train. From there, it passes to the forming mold that will define the cross section of the profile. Then cooling, cutting and breaking occur.

The continuous casting method is used by Mercobronze to manufacture bronze nut of smaller proportions, demanded in large quantities.

Bronze nut for industrial applications

The bronze nut is applied in a wide range of industrial equipment. Among them:

  • Mechanical jacks
  • Bases for leveling machines and equipment
  • Friction or screw presses
  • Metalurgical rolling mills
  • Rolling mill cylinders
  • Forging spindles
  • Cargo elevators
  • Elevators for people with special needs
  • Residential elevators
  • Milling cutters and lathes
  • CNC equipment
  • Packaging machines
  • 3D printers
  • Equipment for engraving and laser cutting
  • Linear motion and positioning systems
