Bronze SAE 430B belongs to the manganese bronze family, due to the presence of the manganese element in the alloy formula. SAE 430B differs from other bronzes due to its high zinc content (between 21% and 28%; and, for this reason, it is also classified as brass.

This mixture of Cu, Zn, Mn and Al results in bronze with high mechanical resistance, making SAE 430B ideal for manufacturing equipment parts with extremely high mechanical stress.

Bronze SAE 430B general characteristics

Bronze SAE 430B has general characteristics that are highly appreciated by industries, in general, due to its specificities in terms of melting point, density, electrical and thermal conductivity, among other benefits. Also known as C86300 bronze, SAE 430B is the result of a special combination of copper, zinc, aluminum, manganese and iron:

  • Cu = 60% – 66%
  • Zn = 22% – 28%
  • Al = 5% – 7,5%
  • Mn = 2,5% – 5%
  • Fe = 2% – 4%
  • Ni = 1% max
  • Sn = 0,20% max
  • Pb = 0,20% max

The presence of zinc in high concentration makes bronze SAE 430B also classified as high resistance brass. Zinc increases the fluidity of the alloy in the liquid state, making it easier to pour into molds during casting. In the solid state, zinc facilitates cutting and machining of the post-cast part.

In bronze SAE 430B, there is no addition of lead. Aluminum is the fundamental element in the composition of the alloy, increasing its fluidity. Its higher concentration is what differentiates bronze SAE 430Bbronze SAE 430A, in which this metal is present in lower content.

This combination of copper, zinc, manganese, aluminum and iron in bronze SAE 430B increases its tensile strength to over 110KSI or 758MPa. This value is higher than that found in certain aluminum alloys and some low-carbon steel alloys.

Due to these general characteristics of bronze SAE 430B, cast parts in this alloy can operate under heavy loads and have excellent corrosion resistance.
